Religion.

Sorry for the seriousness, but this rant was inevitable :)

Alot of people probably know of my intolerance to religion, I could rant endlessly of my reasons why. But i am intolerant of religion mainly because I am intolerant of homophobia, sexism, patriarchy, repression and living under a false belief system based upon something that cannot be proven, or even suggested with evidence. Whereas there is overwhelming evidence on the side of reason and science, disproving any theological claim.

It anger's me because it represses knowledge and promotes ignorance, such as when the pope went to Africa and condemned condoms. He said that they do not help against the spread of AID's and that they should pray the AID's away. After indoctrinating these poor people into a religion by exploiting their poverty, you then condemn the only thing that protects them from becoming infected and consequently dying. People say faith is a good thing as it gives comfort and solace to people, but at what cost? such a large amount of suffering in this world is down to the fault of religious faith and I personally find more comfort in the truth than fabricated bullshit.

Infants are impressionable, and it is their biological imperative to believe whatever their parent's say, so therefore by selecting what you choose to teach them you are conducting a heavy influence on the rest of their life. This is a powerful tool used by alot of religious people and sects to ensure the future stability of their faith - indoctrination. Strongly religious parent's will censor material from their children that contradicts or challenges their faith, so their kids will never be able to see the other side of the argument, the opposing views and factual evidence. Isn't it unfair to give a child a completely bias education, with no chance for them to even form their own opinion based on the knowledge of all the available options and arguments? For them to question or challenge their families religious beliefs is to be disowned and shunned. So 'god' rewards those with strong faith? Faith is factually the active practice of believing in something unquestionably and obediently, in other words to not think for ones self and believe in something with NO evidence. An unintelligent, dim and gullible child is much more likely to hold faith than an innately free-minded, intelligent and analytical child. So god would favour a mindless drone over an intelligent and analysing mind? How moral.

Oh and the origin of morality. "How would you know right from wrong without the 10 commandments and your god-given morality?" Actually, 'morality' is a trait found in evolution, we know not to kill one another because thousands of years ago our ancestor's found that to stay alive and reproduce murder was not productive, and this accompanied with social influence gives us our learned sence of morality. The 10 commandment's include some of the most basic and obvious rule's in society, but the majority such as "You shall have no other Gods but me and You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it." are not the basis of morality, but the words of a jealous god. and If you wanted however to follow through with the demands and guidelines evident in the bible, which I find no moral person would, we would be in constant conflict to an extent where society couldn't function. Kill the godless, kill those who have committed adultery, kill gays, kill rape victims.. the list goes on. The people who wrote the bible in their time era would have also believed that the earth was flat and that sea monsters were a serious threat, of course since then through human discovery the world has come to not believe this anymore, like science has disproved the ideologies of religion, however still the majority believe. So would these people's belief inaccuracies thousands of years ago effect the validity of those expressed in the bible to Christians? of course not.

Another example of faith's method's of tempting people - 'life after death'. Just because the idea of Heaven sound's wonderful and a spiritual afterlife sound's glorified and interesting does in no way make it true, just because you want to believe something because you'd rather it than reality gives it no providence. Just because you'd like to believe there is an omnipotent being that cares and loves for you, doesn't make it true. That may sound harsh, but really delusions aside, it's as bad as me saying that a pink unicorn that lives forever that loves and cares for you doesn't exist, because there is the same amount of proof between them, none. If you told a child with no knowledge of religion the story of the garden of Eden with the talking snake and adam and eve, then told them the story of jack and the beanstalk, would one really sound more bizarre in realities context than the other? no. Some moderate Christians would say that they don't believe in these parts, the stories like Noah and the whale and the virgin birth, but why selectively choose which parts to believe. Of course interpretation is subjective, but by doing this you are neither loyal to faith or reason, you're just picking bit's you'd like to believe, which is as valid as believing every word.

What else puzzles me is bishops & clergy, they preach the word of Jesus, who it is written to have hated the rich, materialism and public prayer. Whilst these people live in castles and sit on thrones encrusted with jewels and gold leading organised religion and organised prayer. Hypocristianity, gotta love that. The image of Jesus on the cross is now a consumerist tool, just imagine the amount of money people have and are making under the guise of religion. "dial 0800-save-your-soul £2 a minute".

Youth.

I swear young girl's these day's have such low morals & self worth. (No this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, lol) But when you see 13 year old's in pictures on facebook dressed in clothes that a slutty 21 year old would wear it must be a reflection of our society. Not sure if it's social pressure to conform to what they see in the media or just the general direction teenage life is going in, but kid's shouldn't be in such a rush to grow up, and especially shouldn't feel pressured to look like jailbait.
